The Pixel Editor is a free browser-based drawing tool built specifically for pixel art — the kind of grid-locked, low-resolution artwork used in retro games, sprites, and icons. Unlike a general-purpose image editor, every stroke snaps to a pixel grid, so lines stay crisp and clean at whatever zoom level you're working at, without the soft, anti-aliased edges a regular paint program would produce.
You can size a new canvas to whatever sprite dimensions you need, then draw with a full pixel toolkit before resizing the canvas again later if a project needs to grow. Everything happens locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded anywhere — so it's equally useful for quick icon mockups, small game sprites, or just doodling in a pixel-art style without installing dedicated software.
How to Use Pixel Editor
- Click New in the top toolbar (or pick a size preset like 16x16 or 32x32) to start a canvas.
- Pick pencil, eraser, fill bucket, eyedropper, line, rectangle, ellipse, or select from the left toolbar, and choose a brush size.
- Set your primary and secondary colors using the swatches, hex fields, or preset palette on the right panel; right-click to paint with the secondary color.
- Use the timeline at the bottom to add, duplicate, or reorder frames and set the frame delay for animation, then hit Play to preview.
- Flip or rotate with the Transform dropdown, and use the zoom controls or Grid toggle to work at the right scale.
- Click Export to save the current frame, all frames, or the full animation as a GIF.
